CNS Response Builds Innovative Custom Medical Service Application on Force.com
September 15, 2008
Life sciences company uses Platform-as-a-Service to give doctors a personalized portal for viewing and evaluating medication sensitivity data - cuts data processing time by 66 percent
Using Force.com, it took the company less than four months to design and deploy a custom application that reduces data processing time from three days to less than 24 hours, and also provides physicians with secure access to patient test results, regardless of location.
"This improvement is more than just a convenience for patient and physician, but really makes rEEG a much usable tool," according to Chief Medical Officer Daniel Hoffman.
CNS Response is one of the 47,700 companies of all sizes, industries and geographies that comprised the salesforce.com customer base as of July 31, 2008. Revenue and subscribers will be recognized as the service is delivered.
"We had successfully rolled out Salesforce CRM to our sales and marketing staff, and were looking for a way to improve how our clinical and production staff worked as well," said Mark Desrosiers, senior vice president of commercial operations at CNS Response. "Force.com enabled us to conceptualize exactly what we wanted and then build it. It was as simple as that."
In addition to building the test processing application, CNS Response used Force.com to integrate the custom solution with its Salesforce SFA and Salesforce Marketing applications and to build a secure portal for its physician customers. The company also tapped into the Force.com AppExchange to add email marketing capabilities from VerticalResponse.
Now CNS Response has a single, integrated solution that greatly increases productivity of its marketing and sales teams, clinical users and production managers. The custom portal provides a secure way for a national network of physicians to gain fast, easy and secure access to their patients' Referenced-EEG® (rEEG®) test results. "We've developed a solution that processes Quantitative EEG data into truly valuable medication guidance reports and helps us deliver results to our customers in one-third the time it used to take," added Desrosiers. "Without Force.com, it would have taken us four times as long and cost four times as much to build this type of application. There is just no question that it has advanced the win-win that we provide for doctors, patients, and payers"

About CNS Response
CNS Response is a life-sciences data company whose patented system provides treatment guidance to psychiatrists and other physicians for patients with behavioral (mental or addictive) disorders. This technology allows CNS Response to create and provide Referenced-EEG® (rEEG®) reports that specifically guide physicians to treatment strategies based on the patient's own physiology.
rEEG® utilizes traditional electroencephalography (EEG) in conjunction with a normative database and a proprietary clinical (symptomatic) database to identify the following: (1) medication classes most likely to be needed; and (2) medications within these classes with the most probable treatment potential for each patient. Reports are provided to physicians in a relationship analogous to that of a reference laboratory. Prospective, retrospective and field studies of treatment-resistant patients have reported treatment success of 70% or greater in managed care, outpatient psychiatric and residential substance abuse clinical settings even for patients that have been previously non-responsive to previous treatment efforts.
In addition to providing analytical support to physicians, CNS Response is also an aid to pharmaceutical developers, who can use rEEG to (1) stratify study populations to improve the success of FDA clinical trials; (2) provide insight on effective therapeutic dosing of investigational drugs; (3) identify additional indications for psychiatric medications; (4) provide insight into effective drug combinations; and (5) discover opportunities for decision analytics and support. In addition to these applications, CNS Response continues to investigate the use of rEEG analysis for development of proprietary pharmaceutical opportunities.
