Newsweek Magazine Highlights CNS Response's Unique Development of rEEG®
August 30, 2007

COSTA MESA, Calif., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CNS Response, Inc. CNSO announced today that the company and its Reference-EEG(SM) (rEEG(SM)) platform are featured in the current issue of Newsweek (September 3, 2007). The article, "Putting Brains on the Couch" by Newsweek Senior Editor, Sharon Begley, examines the present state of psychiatric diagnosis and associated medication selection, highlighting how some psychiatrists are successfully using technology to identify the proper drug regimen for their patients' specific needs.

Daniel Hoffman, MD, Chief Medical Officer for CNS Response, commented, "As with any illness, the physiological characteristics of a behavioral disorder can be key to determining the proper drug regimen. However, at present, psychiatrists generally must base their analyses and treatment recommendations on the symptoms of these disorders, not the biological root cause. CNS Response is unique in providing doctors with an objective tool for identifying a patient's disorder of brain function and the medications that have exhibited the best results in treating the condition. Our rEEG(SM) platform accomplishes this by analyzing a patient's EEG reading against a database of over 13,000 treatment results and a series of 74 biomarkers. Using this information, the system defines a patient's brain functional imbalance and rates probability of treatment success of different medications based on results of patients having similar imbalance stored in our database."

Len Brandt, CEO, stated, "It is not our goal to garner a great deal of publicity for CNS Response at this point. This article does demonstrate a perspective that will be relevant to our future, however: namely that most major news organizations have invested significant efforts in reporting on the challenges of behavioral illnesses. This year alone, myriad articles have appeared on post-traumatic stress disorder of the returning Iraqi warriors, medicating pre-school children with attention deficit disorder, post-partum depression, geriatric depression, irrational obsessions, dangerous explosive adolescent behavior, teenage anorexia, addiction and more. This news, is told on television, in newspapers, magazine and across the web. These same news organizations, like the public they serve, are patiently waiting to tell the news of progress in strategies for treatment. I believe they are the allies for getting the word out. I am not surprised that Ms. Begley, who has authored multiple books in the field, is amongst the first to note the significance of our development. Her article shines light on our progress in bringing to market a relatively low cost, easy to access method to dramatically improve the ability of physicians to successfully medicate patients with behavioral disorders. Our web site, www.cnsresponse.com, carries links to other articles and a recently developed video explaining rEEG(SM) from the viewpoint of physicians and patients."

About CNS Response

CNS Response is a life-sciences data company focused on the commercialization of the first patented commercial system that guides psychiatrists and other physicians to determine proper treatments for patients with behavioral (mental or addictive) disorders. This technology allows CNS Response to create and provide simple reports ("rEEG(SM) Reports") that specifically guide physicians to treatment strategies based on the patient's own physiology.

rEEG(SM) utilizes traditional electroencephalography (EEG) in conjunction with a normative database and a proprietary clinical (symptomatic) database to identify the following: (1) medication classes most likely to be needed; and (2) medications within these classes with the most probable treatment potential for each patient. Reports are provided to physicians in a relationship analogous to that of a reference laboratory. Prospective, retrospective and field studies of treatment-resistant patients have reported treatment success of 70% or greater in managed care, outpatient psychiatric and residential substance abuse clinical settings.

In addition to providing analytical support to physicians, CNS Response is also an aide to pharmaceutical developers, who can use rEEG(SM) to (1) stratify study populations to improve the success of FDA clinical trials; (2) provide insight on effective therapeutic dosing of investigational drugs; (3) identify additional indications for psychiatric medications; (4) provide insight into effective drug combinations; and (5) discover opportunities for decision analytics and support. In addition to these applications, CNS Response continues to investigate the use of rEEG analysis for development of proprietary pharmaceutical opportunities.
